Here's some background info and questions on Beaulieus I bought few days ago. I don?t know much of the technical words in english so first I have to explain what I mean with some of them:

Groundglass switch:
The nub on the sidepanel next to film counter and exposure switch. I don?t understand what is the ground glass, but this nub moves a foggy, colorless filter inside the camera. Is that the ground glass

Shutter adjust-switch:
The thing on the top of the camera wich moves the mirror. I don?t understand the purpose of this, but it closes the shutter or makes it smaller.

Beaulieu 2008 S (serial number 802942)

Body:
Almost perfect. Just one or two very small scrathes.

ASA ring:10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 400. Turns OK. Has one red and one white mark.

Filmspeed ring: 2, 4, 8, 18, 25, 36, 50. Turns OK. At the low end the ring stops at 2, but at the high end it stops after the 50. It goes over 50 about 8 mm.

Groundglass switch:
Turns OK and moves the groundglass also OK.

Film counter:
pointer turns OK.

Meter next to Filmcounter:
I don?t know what it is?

Exposure switch:
Turns OK, but goes over in both ends. Has 4 stops, Semi, Auto, Stop and control.

Battery:
Doesn?t have a battery. Little corrosion on the bottom where the battery goes. Battery cover is on its place and turns in and out OK. The cover has a spiral -shaped connection plate.

Viewfinder:Rubber eyepiece is broken. The adjustment-ring turns OK.

Cartridge ”nest” door:
Lock works fine and the door moves OK. Glass is missing from the ”window”.

Filter removing plate:Missing, but works in the camera, moves the filter when inserted.

Trigger:Working OK. Also stays down when turned.

Shutter adjust-switch:
Moves OK and moves the mirror.

Mirror: Clean and looks OK.

Beaulieu 4008 S (serial number 851285)

Body:
Has couple of small scratches and one big bumb. The metal body is ”smiling” on the top corner, next to the shutter closing -switch. Looks like the camera has been dropped or left between a heavy door.

ASA ring:
10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 400. Turns OK, but keeps just a little scraching sound when turned. Two red, one green and two white marks?

Filmspeed ring:
2, 4, 8, 18, 25, 36, 50, 70. Turns OK and has a stop on 18?

Groundglass switch:
Turns OK and moves the groundglass also OK.

Film counter:
pointer turns OK.

Meter next to Filmcounter:
I don?t know what it is?

Exposure switch:
Turns and stops OK. Has 3 stops, Auto, Manuel and Test.

Battery:
Has a battery that doesn?t keep it?s charge. (so I was told, haven?t tested). Three connection-plates on the camera. Looks clean and OK.

Viewfinder:
Rubber eyepiece is still there but seems to be quite weak. The adjustment-ring turns OK and has the locking screw.

Cartridge nest door:
Door moves OK, but the lock is very tight and doesn?t return when opened. The window has a glass, but it?s about to fall of any minute.

Filter removing plate:
In place and works OK. Moves the filter.

Trigger:
Working OK. Also stays down when turned.

Shutter adjust-switch:
Moves OK and moves the mirror.

Mirror: Clean and looks OK.

---------------------------
Questions:
- What are the two connections next to the viewfinder?
- What is the connection below of cartridge door?
- What is the meter next to the filmcounter?
- What does the markings on the ASA ring mean?
- What does the markings test and semi mean in the exposure switch?
- What are the electric connections and their voltages and amps?
- What is groundglass?
- What?s the purpose on shutter adjust-switch (explained in the beginning)
- How do I use the 1fr/s feature?
- How do I remove the cover to see inside the camera?
- Does the automatic exposure system follow if I slowly change the filmspeed when filming?
---------------------------

Ang?nieux 1:1.9 / 8-64mm (Angenieux-zoom type 8 x 8 B, number 1226970)

Looks and feels good, but in closer examination with a flashlite the lens has ”greyish” area on side of the first glass. It doesn?t come of with cleaning. Lens also has some small scratches that will probably show in the picture when examined carefully. The motor is crying when you turn the iris. If you turn it very slowly it doesn?t cry. The button on the end of the motor feels good and returns when pushed.

Schneider - Kreuznach 1:1.8 / 8-40mm (9574509 Variogon)
Look and feels good, but the glass has some tiny scratches that may show in the picture. The motor-system is broken. The iris works, but the motor can?t keep up, so the iris-ring ”jumps” over the teeth of the motor. When attaching lens to camerabody the motor part turns too much and jams the iris-ring. The button on the end of the motor feels good and returns when pushed.

---------------------------
Questions:
- What does it mean if the lens has fungus and how it will show?
- Can I remove the motor from the Schneider-Kreuznach?
- These lenses dont have the macro-option, or do they?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I'll give it a go I numbered you questions to make it easier.

1) One is for a remote control the other is for recharging the battery through the camera.
2) Single frame (cable release)
3) Frame counter
4) This sets the film speed (ASA) so that the internal light meter knows how to expose your film correctly.
5) Test has got to be for battery test, "semi" hmm never seen that before. Usually its "auto" for full auto shooting or "manual" for non auto metering/zooming.
6) I'll pass that one to someone else
7) Its a fine focussing screen that allows you pin point sharpness especially when using telephoto or macro modes. They allow you to move it out of the way so that the viewfinder becomes a bit brighter.
8) The shutter adjust lever (on top?) opens and closes the shutter. It allows you to increase the shutter speed without changing the filming speed. It will lock at half and closed positions. (move lever half way and lift it straight up and it should lock at half closed).
9) see answer 2)
10) Don't know
11) Yes
12) It means that fungus is growing on the lens. If its there you should be able to see it. Shine a light in there to see. How it effects film you expose depends on how bad it is.
13) Yes, There are some screws near the base (4 i believe) remove them and the barrel will come off. Oh take the whole lens off first.
14) When I had the angenieux 8-64 it had macro. If it does there is a sliding knob near the base of the lens. Don't know about the Schneider.

Thank you a lot cameraguy! You have been very helpfull. One thing was left a little bit uncovered...

---------------------------
-4) What does the markings on the ASA ring mean?
---------------------------

4) This sets the film speed (ASA) so that the internal light meter knows how to expose your film correctly.

...there's two red, one green and two white marks on the asa ring? (the other camera has one red and one white mark) I don't know what are the meanings on these?

Another thing... I suppose I can use the singleframe mode with the camera's own trigger. I don't have to have a cable do I?

And if anyone knows the voltage/electricity -things on these cameras I would love to know!! I'm building a batterypack for them and I don't want to break the exposuremeters...

Thaks again

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The green dot is for the correct setting. The other dots are going to be for over/under exposure. The first will be 1/2 stop the second 1 full stop.

No, you can only do single frame with the cable release. I am pretty sure any cable release will work. They can be bought at any camera store. You can bring the camera with you and make sure a new one fits.

As for the power I don't remember which one is which. But for the 2008 one tab is 2.4v for meter, another is 4.8v for motor and the other is ground. The 4008 is "probably" going to be 3.6v for meter, 7.2v for motor and also a ground. I say probably cause I think some real early 4008 cameras may be the lesser voltage. Someone else will know better.

I found out the voltages on these cameras and they are like you said and I think I'll be able to build a batterypack even if I don't know almost anything about electricity. But I have a problem with the 2008. I read somewhere that there is 2 different models of 2008S. Other one has 3 connections and the other has 2? I don't know if this is true but my 2008 just seems to have only 2 connections. Maybe the third connection is there and I just can't figur it out. Anyway, if you know if there is a 2008 with only 2 connections ...would appreciate it. thanks.
